Support & partnerships

Help more young people access meaningful creative opportunities

Funding, referrals and commissioned partnerships can widen access while keeping groups small and the quality of support high.

Why support The Making Place?

A focused provision with a clear role in Bath

Bath is often seen as an affluent city, but that overall picture can hide pockets of deprivation and families under financial pressure. Specialist creative opportunities can be expensive, leaving some young people priced out.

The Making Place gives young people access to music production, recording, podcasting and filmmaking in a small, supportive studio environment. It is particularly valuable for young people who benefit from a manageable group, a practical route into learning or an environment that does not feel like a classroom.

Support helps us reduce barriers while protecting what makes the provision effective: small groups, individual attention, real equipment and time to complete meaningful work.

Pilot learning

Evidence that informs the next stage

The pilot confirmed that group size, hands-on involvement and the studio environment were central to the experience.

Small groupsYoung people and parents repeatedly identified the manageable group size as a strength.
Active rolesParticipants valued making and operating equipment rather than watching a demonstration.
Return interestAll respondents to end-of-pilot feedback said they wanted to return.

“I liked that it was a small group so we all got help when we needed it.”

“Very youth led, a really safe space, great equipment and resources.”

What support can fund

Practical routes to impact

Funded places

At least one fully funded place has been offered on every programme delivered so far. Funding allows that commitment to continue and reach more young people.

Small-group programmes

Structured blocks for home education, targeted cohorts, alternative provision or community groups.

Equipment & project costs

Microphones, headphones, instruments, media tools, materials and the costs of producing completed work.

Mentoring & progression

Focused support that helps a young person develop skills, confidence and an achievable next step.

Ways to work together

Partnership does not have to mean a donation

We welcome conversations with schools, alternative provision, local businesses, funders, youth organisations, charities and creative-industry partners.

Commission a programme

Agree a group, creative focus and intended outcomes for a tailored block of delivery.

Refer young people

Connect young people who would benefit from a smaller, practical creative environment.

Real projects

Music, podcasts and film with tangible outcomes.

Safe and accountable

Clear practice around safeguarding, consent and data

Delivery is led by an experienced youth worker and Designated Safeguarding Lead. The Making Place maintains safeguarding, consent and data-protection procedures, with clear professional boundaries and risk management.

Policies are available to parents, carers, referring organisations and partners.

Building sustainably

Developing into a Community Interest Company

The Making Place is preparing to become a Community Interest Company (CIC), formalising its community purpose as the provision grows.

The intended structure will strengthen governance and accountability, support access to a wider range of funding, and help the provision grow without losing its focus on community benefit.

We welcome early conversations with funders and partners who want to help shape a sustainable, accessible creative provision for young people in Bath.
